미국의 조지아 주와 플로리다 주를 거쳐 멕시코 만으로 흘러 들어가는 강. 가곡의 제목으로 유명하며 가곡을 기념하는 박물관이 있다. 길이는 400km.
고향의 부모형제를 그리는 애절한 마음을 노래하고 있으며, 흑인의 생활감정을 가장 아름답게 표현한 대표적인 곡으로 미국인들이 민요처럼 애창하는 가곡이다.
